Introducing...the Scrub

In the world of Street Fighter competition, there is a word for players who aren't good: "scrub." Everyone begins as a scrub---it takes time to learn the game to get to a point where you know what you're doing. There is the mistaken notion, though, that by merely continuing to play or "learn" the game, that one can become a top player. In reality, the "scrub" has many more mental obstacles to overcome than anything actually going on during the game. The scrub has lost the game even before it starts. He's lost the game before he's chosen his character. He's lost the game even before the decision of which game is to be played has been made. His problem? He does not play to win.

Basically i was doin Sanctum Cay on Hard Mode.
We had an extremly arrogant monk on our side. Whilst in the part with with the dragons and the poisen river he decided to stay in the river. Having the monks in the river allowed us to easily just healers boon + GOLE + heal party easily without the poisen effecting us. However someone flipped out and said we should have all went to land, where the aggro was.............. i said we were fine without and he said "Huh u must be a pve'er"..........................whatever that was supposed to mean.

Later on we had a convo going similar to this:
HIM: Mag what buil you running again?
ME: HB
HIM: Ping it
* I PING*
HIM: No wander your doing crap
Everyone else: WHAT?
HIM: You shouldn't be carring a res, monks should never carry a res...........

after being insulted and playing 4 years as monk apparently i've learny monks never should carry a res. I understand in ceratain situations there are no need but what was wrong with this nice balanced group and me bringing it.

also slightly mentioned:
LFG for Tihark - Minion Master............
i lol'd

In the trade window a guy was selling "Deep Blue rock Candy". So, I wsp to him "how much?" He replies 2k ea. Of course, I told him that was ridiculous. He reminded me they were Deep Blue and very rare. so, I ask to see them. Just regular blue rock candy. Nothing I could say would convince him that his rock candy was just the same blue rock candy that everyone else had.

Back in 2005 we were 7/8 and pugged a monk in a hurry for Tombs (read: HA). Dude's Mo/R (this was before everyone went Mo/Me...was even before Mo/N OoB was everywhere). We go in to face the unworthy and there's a pet. Who brought a pet? Of course, it's the monk.

Vent explodes. "Dude, we are all going to DIE when you get blacked out after your pet dies!" "You are such an idiot!" "Uninstall now!" "Go back to WoW!" etc.

Player claims he's never been blacked out because his pet died. Vent explodes again.

No amount of chastisement would convince this fool that monks should not bring pets.

Well, he's right. A heal or prot monk should never carry a res, unless it's Unyeilding Aura. Reses should be carried on midliners, and possibly a res signet on a frontliner with a spare slot. The three seconds you stop healing/protting, someone else will just die anyway.

The only exception to this is if you're in a group of people you expect to (near-)wipe several times. Then you can bring Rebirth and pull the group up time and time again. Which is usually counterproductive, 'cause everyone will have 60DP at the end and you'll probably fail anyhow. :P

Monks don't need res in balanced groups. If people are dying, having the monk spend time ressing is the worst possible choice. Let the midline handle resses.

Today I did Hatchery and there was a tank in my group with 7 Adrenaline based skills and Healing Breeze in his bar. We spent 10 mins trying to tell him his build was crap. He said he needed HB because most Monks don't know how to heal. >.< So eventually we said ok and went it. He proceeded to Leeroy into battle each time and pulled aggro to the back row nearly everytime. When we asked him why he was runnning away from battle he replied "So I don't get hit.". Lucklily the rest of us weren't retarded and we ended up with Masters anyway.

have a bunch.

while doing the crossroads mission in hm:
ele: Im using firestorm on the kourman zealot !

also had a mending warrior in another group that day

I also dont like playing monk with dervishes who think that balthazars avatar will save them from dying somehow....monks dont have a run skill and doing one of the hm zmissions the other day I was sill rezzing the group...dervish runs off into the next mob and dies asking where is healing was; well having just finished rezzing the last person I was still running up to get close enough to even think about casting when he died....and yes I had used some candy and still didnt get there intime. Warriors do the same thing...run waaay into the next mob thinking they will get some kind of healing when they are 3 aggo bubbles away from the party

moddock crevice:
wiki says so....says the warrior,
yeah and wiki is written by players who may or may NOT be correct. (and in that case wiki was indeed wrong we finished the mission killing the patrol without being told by dunky it was ok....and got masters). [these are probably also the same people who believe everything they read on the internet!]

doing arbostone in hm, playing nuker....half of the team gets killed, including one monk....seems that I was the ONLY other person to bring a rez...good thing I was still alive or we would have had to restart....which is exactly what happened doing gayla the other day....only I was the monk (and the ONLY person to have a rez in the whole group) and I died....no one was able to rez since no one brings them anymore to a pug group. sigh

yes stopping to rez is stopping the healing, however; if no one has a rez then you will be restarting instead.

and my pet peeve....anyone who brings a pet along (level 20) and it dies (say at the first mob) and no revive pet-- why waste a skill on a pet then??????? bring a useful skill and leave the pet at home. I really dont care what kind of pet you have.

had the same arguement with a guildy the other day i was like you know wiki is written by people and people make mistakes and can be wrong. i even tried to point out the difference in the two wikis then explained use them for reference but dont take the info as set in stone

i agree with rez to a point i buy rez scrolls for my monk that way i can get group up fast and still heal. i know hey this whole consumable arguement but these are one thing i think are important because the monk bars its hard to find room as it is and all those extra skill point what am i gonna do with them anyways

Hm... let's see...

[Newbie] - "What is the best <whatever>?"
[Random Guy 1] - "<something> for sure".
[Random Guy 2] - "Yeah".
[Random Guy 3] - "That's true".
Yeah, we all know that in GW there is only one good skin, one good profession, one good animal, one good skill, one god... whatever...

- "Anyone wants to cyber?"
Welcome to IMVU! Oh... wait...

- "This game sucks".
So long and thanks for all the fish, mate.

- "I can't sell anything, inscriptions ruined the game".
Heard this once in-game, just once. It was a guy trying to sell a req 13 non-maxed(probably loot form a level 10 skeleton) common Sephis Axe with no inherent property nor inscription slots and a +21 health upgrade...
...in Kamadan....
...for 20k...
...Yeah. It's all ANet's fault, you could sel that for 100K before inscriptions were added...

- "I hope they don't touch Shadow Form/RoJ/Other gimmick".
Yeah, because changing builds is impossible once you set one.

[Random Assassin with a elite-less build filled with random monk skills (4 of them maintained)] - "I'm a tank".
This one left me speechless for a second. Someone even drew W, T and then F with big letters in the Radar.

[Paragon leader of the party] - "Ping your build"
[I ping my build] I'm a E/Me and we are entering an area that may more than an hour with no morale bonuses at all, we had 2 monks a ritualist and a necromancer already bringing resses.
[Paragon leader of the party] - "Add a res"
He asked a res to every party member.
Needles to say, I didn't add a res, I just told him I added it and then changed the build back. Of course he doesn't noticed, because the monk and ritualist resurrects were more than enough to bring him back from his uncountable deaths.
I'm not changing my build for a single skill I won't use less than once per every minute, and I'm not bringing a signet in an area that may take more than an hour and with no morale bonuses to recharge them. If I'm the last one standing in a Mission, then the problem is worse than one player not bringing a res.
To add extra fun, the guy was a hammer wielding paragon that claimed to be an "imbagon", although he was secondary D. Of course, I didn't see on me the typical imbagon effects in the whole time, and I was within earshot. The guy died so frequently that I could perfectly understood why he asked everyone to bring a res: His plan was to kill the enemy by throwing his own corpse to them. The MM's minions lasted more than him. And the MM was a minion bomber. At least he worked as bait.

[Part y leader] - "Ping build"
[I ping build] It's an air build to spread conditions such as dazing, blindness, weakness and cracked armor. The party is supposedly going to fight destroyers and only destroyers
[Party leader] - "That sucks, bring this."
[Pings a build with searing flames, mark of rodgort, many 30 o 60 second recharge AoE fire skills and no energy management of any kind]
I bet he goes to Kathandrax with that too. And no, no one was bringing Winter, in case you wonder. And no, he was not mistaken, that was the build he wanted to show.
Everyone left that party.

Here's the jewel in the crown:
- "I'm better than you".
It seems the guy was looking at the Krytan armor my elementalists usually wears (I like white clothing). As we all know, if you use the armor you like instead the expensive ones, you are a worse player.

And finally, my favourite:
- "<Profession> are better than Elementalists".
Yeah, dream on! XDDDDDD

Fun never ends in Guild Wars.
